Does paying my bills restore my bad credit?

You would think that would be true. But, again, the credit reporting system just doesn't work that way.

When you pay an old debt, the negative credit listing doesn't disappear. The collection companies and the original creditors will tell you they are going to update it to show that it was paid, but the item will still appear on your credit report as a paid delinquency. A paid delinquency is still considered as a negative item on your credit reports. Before you pay a collection company anything, you should always request something in writing from company that says they will remove the negative listing completely from your credit reports if you pay the debt.
